FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MoFest 3 UpdateA Celebration of Gay & Lesbian FilmMarch 8, 2007
Contrary to first impression, it's not a
gathering of Three Stooges fans or a convention of Lawn Mower
manufacturers. MoFest 3 is the Third annual Modesto Gay & Lesbian Film
Festival, coming to the historic State Theatre on March 31st and April 7th.
A third year for such an event is surprising to those unfamiliar with
current day Modesto. A community of over 200,000, Modesto has come a long
way from the days when George Lucas sowed the seeds of American Graffiti
while cruising up and down 10th street. It is a college town with close ties
to CSU Stanislaus and will see the opening of the Gallo Performing Arts
Center this Fall.
As a widely accepted belief states that 10%
of the USA population is Gay or Lesbian, the city of Modesto has quite
a large Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community. Per 2000 census
records, respondents who identified themselves as Gay or Lesbian provided
Modesto with a 6% higher than the national average GLBT population. As
Modesto sits approximately a 90 minute drive from the metropolitan areas of
San Francisco and Sacramento, this third year for MoFest gives evidence of
substantial community need and support for such an event.
Both nights for MoFest 3 will feature the
same format beginning with 1 or 2 short films followed by a feature film
and intermission. The second half of each night will also offer 1 or 2
shorts followed by the final film of the evening. Among the films
being screened are 'Go West,' a 2006 Lisbon Film Festival winner,
and described as a screwball comedy. The antics focus on a Gay couple, one
Serb, the other Muslim, trying to survive in worn torn Sarajevo by posing as
a straight couple with one dressed like a woman. 'Long Term Relationship' is
a romantic comedy in which two men meet through personal ads and are
convinced they've found their perfect match until new discoveries tarnish
that image. The cast includes Joel Bryant, from the TV series Vegas and
Chuti Tiu from the series 24. The 2007 feature 'Back Soon' features Artie
O'Day of Scrubs and Veronica Mars and Jeremy Lucas from Nip/Tuck. The story
focuses on two straight men who are unprepared for the way their friendship
evolves into something more intense.
